1. We see rainbows all the time and they are truly remarkable! The color of the sky and the clouds, and the rainbows make you feel like you are in heaven!
2. Our daily activities have changed... now for a relaxing day we go reading by the beach or driving upcountry in the mountains were it's cool. We are paddle boarding, body boarding, and snorkeling. Things that we have no experience in but are loving learning how to do!
3.We have no air conditioning.... we use fans all day long and have the trade winds that blow in the afternoon. At night we sleep great, but during the day it can get a little steamy. Let me tell you though... when you get used to not having air conditioner and then walk into a grocery store it is freezing cold and fabulous!
4. The gas pumps don't have the lever that holds the pump so you can walk away. So.... you actually have to stand there and pump your gas! LOL
5. Church is so welcoming. People aren't in a hurry to leave once the service is over. They talk and eat lunch together or breakfast together in the courtyard. They invite you places and ask questions about your life. You are instantly apart of something when you step into Hope Chapel.
6. Mopeds and Scooters - People drive mopeds and scooters everywhere! They are very cool here!
7. Cable and T.V.- We don't have cable at all! We do own a television to watch movies, but no cable. At first it was really weird and then it was really nice. Jeremy and I talk more, we read, we get out of the house and go do fun things! It was something to get accustomed too, especially the silence, but know I like the quiet. (By the way we could buy cable, they do have it... we just haven't gotten it.)
8. Life is soooo much slower here. The "Aloha Spirit"! We have had to really slow ourselves down. People aren't running each other over in Wal-Mart, they aren't in a hurry to make your Subway sandwich, they drive and enjoy the scenery. This has been such a great lesson to learn. To slow down... so different than the Dallas lifestyle.
9. Food is a luxury! The price of food is so different from the mainland ( Texas ). So when you see a deal you buy like five of it! A few prices to give you an idea....
Cereal - one box anywhere from $4-$7
Milk - $4-$5
Cheese- $4-$5
Grapes- $13!!!!!
Grape Tomatoes- $6
Boxed Cakes Mixes and Cookies- $4-$5
The fun part about food being so expensive is that we shop for produce at the Swap Meet. So every Saturday morning we take bags and go load up on fresh fruits and vegetables. It is from local farmers and the prices are GREAT!!!! So we have been eating a lot of fruits and vegetables! We have been really cutting back on cookies and boxed snacks because they are so pricey. They do however at Safeway ( the grocery store) have great 2 for $6 deals!
10. They don't have your usual shops or restaurants. Everything here is very local. We have a Macy's, Sears, Wal-Mart, and Ross to shop at and then an Outback Steak House and tons of McDonalds. There are more local restaurants and local shopping centers. We also do tons of second hand shopping. Because so many people come and go here there are a lot of second hand stores! We furnished our home completely using second hand stores.
So there's a few things about our new home!
